The 65th Air Base Wing (ABW), is the American host unit at Lajes Field, Terceira Island, Azores, Portugal. This Air Combat Command (ACC) unit is the largest U.S. Military organization in the Azores.
The wing commander reports to the commander, Air Combat Command, Langley AFB, Va., through the commander, Eighth Air Force, Barksdale AFB, La. The wing provides base and en route support for Department of Defense, allied nations, and other authorized aircraft transiting the installation.
Aircraft supported by the wing come from various nations, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Colombia, Germany, Venezuela and Great Britain.
Aircraft frequently transiting Lajes Field include the C-141 Starlifter, C-130 Hercules, C-5 Galaxy, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, KC-135 Stratotanker and others.
Air Force units that make up the 65th ABW include the 65th Support Group, 65th Logistics group, 65th Communications Group and 65th Medical Group.
